WVU men's lacrosse announces its 2020 captains
WVU men’s lacrosse has announced its captains for the 2020 season. They are defensemen Brandon White and Jake Purdy along with attackman Matt Paul and midfielder Cory Reed.
Brandon White, a junior from Stony Brook, NY, returns as the first All-SELC selection for the Mountaineers since 2012 with an honorable mention as a defenseman. A leader on and off the field, White has garnered the respect of his teammates and opponents alike. He majors in Business and attended national lacrosse powerhouse Ward Melville High School on Long Island where he played for coach Jay Negus. White is the son of Todd and Kristie White.
Jake Purdy serves as team President and co-captain of the 2020 Mountaineers. A native of Granville, OH, he is the son of Matt and Shari Purdy. As a junior athletic coaching major, Purdy also serves as the defensive coordinator for the University High School Hawks boy’s lacrosse team in Morgantown. He continues to be a student of the game and a coach on and off the field. Purdy honed his defensive skills playing for the Blue Aces of Granville High School under the leadership of head coach Bill Taylor.
Attackman Matt Paul joins White and Purdy as a 2020 co-captain. Paul is a junior majoring in Global Supply Chain Management. A proven leader on offense, Matt joins his brother Andy as 2020 Mountaineers. They are the sons of Mike and Kris Paul of Forest, VA and attended Jefferson Forest High School where they played for coach Jesse Bickel.
Rounding out the group of 2020 captains is midfielder Cory Reed from Fallston, MD. Cory played for coach Matt Parks at Fallston High before becoming a Mountaineer. He is an engineering major at WVU. As a sophomore, Reed has excelled as an offensive standout and led the Mountaineers in offensive production as a freshman in 2019. He is the son of Steve and Sarah Reed.
The Mountaineers begin their 2020 spring campaign on Saturday, February 15th at 5:00 pm with a game against the nationally ranked Seminoles of Florida State in Auburn, AL. WVU men’s lacrosse will return to Morgantown for its first home game on Saturday February 22nd. The Mountaineers will welcome the Hokies of Virginia Tech at 2:00 pm on the Rec Center turf.
